Step 2 - First Ideas for Conceptual Package
We each came up with 3 ideas for our first pass at our conceptual package.
My first idea was inspired by learning that at Abydos the current team is excavating mound of earth that were made when a former archeology team (in the early 1900s) was excavating the site. The current team is going back into those “trash” mounds to find new artifacts before excavating new areas. They are hoping to find fragments of the pylons of the Temple of Osiris.
For my first idea two people sit at a table that has an outline of the pylons of the Temple of Osiris on it. They pick up puzzle pieces from a tray and fit them together on the outline, when the piece is placed in the correct spot and RFID reading triggers a projection to give more information about that artifact. When all the piece are placed in the correct spot more information about the full context of the Temple is projected.
Inspired by this table I saw at NYHSc
My second idea is a 3-step process. The user first feels a 3d object that they cannot see in a box. They then sculpt what they imagine that object is. Lastly they bring their sculpture to a pedestal which triggers the start of a projection. The projection gives information/context for what the object in the box is.
My third idea is to have a box with movable trays. Each tray represents a different time period at the Abydos site. The user wears headphones and looks down through the top of the box. As they move each tray in the see information on the about that time period and audio is triggered, this tells the listener about that time period at the Abydos site. The user can make any combination of drawers in order to see the intersection of those time periods.
