The Pigeon's Wish
Roi and I decided to use live footage/photographs for the background of our animation with AI files for our components. Our first step was to get the footage which we found around downtown brooklyn. We needed a subway scene, a trash can scene, a bench scene, building scene and then Grand Central footage which we were able to get online.
We then needed to make our AI components. We did this by finding images online, cleaning them in Photoshop and then image tracing them to give them a flat/graphic quality in Illustrator.
My favorite part was deciding what should be in the trash can:
We broke up the scenes, I took the first half and Roi took the second half and then we started to put everything together in AfterEffects. Learning AfterEffects was a slow process and the amount of time it took to animate for the seconds of animation was almost the same as stop motion animation. I can see the benefit of AfterEffects and I think I will use it in the future but it is a slow process!
After we finished our parts we exported them and connected everything in PremierPro. We decided to add ambient spacial sounds to ground our pigeon in its scenes. Most of the sounds I had left over from my Sound and Video class - like the subway and street sounds.
