Developments
There have been a couple of developments to my project in the last week. I’m moving away from rendering out all of my “finished” tableaus. I think rendering requires thinking too much about the specifics of how things actually fit together on a micro level rather than what is happening on a macro level. I’m more curious to think about the objects, their ecosystems and how kids actually play with them. Big thanks to Dana for pushing me in this direction last Tuesday!
Firstly, I’m going to show the diversity of ways the shapes can be built. I’m going to do this by sending a package of “flats” to a group of volunteers. The flats are 1/7th the scale of the actual pieces. I’ll ask each person to assemble in 3d and then send me a photos of what they make and answer some questions.
I posted on instagram asking for volunteers and 21 people wrote back! I need to see how many kits I can make with the material I have. Im really excited to get the shapes into other people’s hands.
I also wanted to look at the flats in concert with one another. These are rendered out of Vectorworks then placed in Illustrator.
I mades a sketch to think about what I’ll want to render and what I’ll want to collage or draw.
Annnnnd Dawn S. showed me these puzzles by Enzo Mari that are so inspiring.
I’d love to figure out a way to use this type of system. Here is a very quick sketch of an idea:
Lastly, I think its important to show what the truck and area around it would look like at a couple different times in a day:
9am - truck pulls up, kids unpack and start building
11am - kids have built, some have gone, some have come
4pm - “ “
5pm - packing up.
