Diorama

This week we each worked on dioramas. I decided to make one of my paternal great-grandparent’s house in Roccasecca Italy. Whenever I went their growing up I was struck by the kitchen and backyard and the stairs that connected the two to the basement which is also an operating wine cellar. The stairs are norrow and winding and they cut through the backyard which has 2 separate concrete layers. According to my Dad and his silbings my great grandparents used to have livestock in their backyard which was always shocking to me because of how small (and grass-less) the backyard is. The kitchen ceiling has hooks which used to be used to dry prosciutto and salami.

I wanted to make my diorama of this house because the architecture and the stories I was told about the house have always struck me. Whenever I visit the house I wish I could be transported back in time to see how my family lived in the early 1900s.

I wanted to make the house from memory so I did not look at any photos for the diorama.
